WTF: Things That Were WACK Last Week

Makes Monday feel like a Friday, doesn’t it? (Lies.)

In this issue: Leighton Meester’s alum gets pushed back again; the Glee tour is too short to be gleeful; no new album from Britney this summer; Scrubs: Med School fate may be clearer than we think; and distressing news about the fate of the Seeker.

Glamour Reveals Another Leighton Album Push Back

Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester is featured in the April issue of Glamour magazine as part of the “New Glam Guard.” No idea what that means, but, hey, more press for her! She talks about being loyal to the Gossip Girl family, being in the tabloids, and her feelings about marriage. All great stuff, all normal woman magazine topics. But then I caught this line: “Next Projects: Movie: Date Night; And an Album out late 2010.” LATE 2010?!?!?!?! First, it was first quarter 2010. Then it was spring 2010. And now it’s LATE?!?!?! Really?!?!?! How many more push backs can us fans endure?! I have been listening to her leaked-to-YouTube demo “Body Control” nonstop over the last few weeks because I’m running out of energy for “Somebody to Love.” Obviously, she will release a new single between now and the album’s release, but can we get this music career moving, people? I need more Blair Waldorf Leighton on the radio!

Glee Tour: Touchy Subject

Last week, the TV Addict broke the news that the Glee tour had been finalized and the stops would be in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Phoenix. Yep, four cities. Hold on, hold on, hold on. ONLY FOUR CITIES?!?!? And no nation's capital?!?!? I was CRUSHED, heartbroken. Completely demolished!!! I had had visions of heading over to the Verizon Center on a warm summer’s night, piling into the towering stands along with thousands of fellow Gleeks, singing along to our beloved Gleekinzied songs. But now that will not happen. At least not this year. The tour is only going to four cities. WHYYYY!?!?!? A part of me understands that it would be pretty much impossible to fit in a full-fledged nationwide tour with 45+ stops because these actors do have to shoot a new season of the show (that is why we love Glee in the first place—the show). And that would probably be too much for them. But I can keep that part of me alive with hope that maybe in the future they will tour again and that future tour will include a stop closer to me so that I can go. And the children. The children can go...

No New Britney Tunes This Summer After All

A month or so ago, BritneySpears.com started a new regular feature called the "BS Alert" in which they post false news reports about Britney and either make fun of them for being so ridiculous or just put an end to a realistic-sounding rumor they don't want fans to mistakenly believe. On February 26th, they announced that reports saying Britney's next album will be out in June was a—dun dun duuuuuun—BS ALERT!!! I will admit that while I was pretty sure June would be too soon for a new album (and actually I've been having my doubts about her releasing a new album during what is most definitely going to be The Year of Christina as soon as her new single hits radio this month), I am still a little crushed. The thought of having even just one new Britney song this year would be enough for me. But girl needs a break. And from all these awesome producers mentioning working with her on a more urban, hip hop influenced sound, well, I'd like her to take all the time she needs recording a kick ass batch of songs to release in the future. I know she'll be back, but she needs time to do her, as Jersey Shore's JWoww would say.

Two ‘Scrubs’ Stars Snag Pilots Before Fate of the Show Announced

So, ABC hasn’t even finished airing the full ninth season of Scrubs nor have they made a decision one way or the other about whether it will be back for a tenth season. But two of the show’s stars have landed starring roles in pilots for the upcoming season. Donald Faison, who plays Turk on the show, will star opposite Sullivan Stapleton as a new lead homicide detective paired with a recently demoted veteran in The Odds for CBS. Eliza Coupe, who plays Denise (but I still call her Jo), will star in a comedy pilot for ABC called Happy Endings, which revolves around four friends who have to figure out how to make their relationships work after two of them break up at the altar. The article about Eliza throws in the line, “For Coupe, the casting is in second position to Scrubs,” but the fact that her pilot is for ABC makes me nervous. If they like it better than Scrubs and think it fits in better with their other family-oriented comedies like Cougar Town and Modern Family, it’s not a risky assumption to think they’d choose to greenlight that rather than renew Scrubs. Of course, they could always do both and recast Coupe’s role. And Turk doesn’t need to come back next season for the show to go on, I suppose. But still, it’s not looking good.

‘Legend of the Seeker’ Loses Its Distributor

I was shocked to discover last Friday that the Tribune Company has dropped critically-acclaimed fantasy series Legend of the Seeker, effectively canceling the series. People writing in to inquire about the status of the show have been getting a standard email back from the senior VP of Corporate Relations that says, “Thanks for your email and for your support of the show. Unfortunately, not enough viewers felt the same way as you and “Seeker’s” ratings do not merit renewing it. I’m sorry.” Legend, which is produced by ABC Studios, runs in syndication. Tribune had been the distributor and run the series on its channels like WGN America for the last two years. So, without a distributor and thus networks to run the show on, the show gets canceled. No official word yet on whether or not ABC Studios will find another distributor, but everything hinges on that decision and its outcome. This is heartbreaking news since the show is, well, AMAZING and it’s based on a series written by Terry Goodkind that is ELEVEN BOOKS LONG. So, if they cancel it now, bye bye, last eight books also known as the majority of the story! I know there’s still time for ABC to try and find a new distributor, but I’m really, really worried now. I guess I should start pricing the books on Amazon. Oh, man, and I really thought this show was safe!

And THAT was the last Week in WTF!
