ABC Has Apparently Canceled 'Scrubs'

ABC has become that girlfriend or boyfriend who is too nice to tell you to your face that it's over, so it just starts leaving super blatant hints that the end is here but never actually picks up the phone to leave a message or send a text to tell you straight up.

I say this because Scrubs appears to be over forever, as evidenced by the banner on ABC's website that bills this week's would-be season nine finale as the Scrubs SERIES finale. Take a look:

I saw this yesterday morning and was hoping that it was a mistake. So, I decided to wait and see if they would correct it after a couple news sites picked up on it, but it's still there.

I know I didn't go into this season happy. I thought season 8 was a damn good way to end the show. Plus, I didn't like the idea of the new kids taking over. But I read more from creator Bill Lawrence about how he had wanted to bill the show as a totally different series, more like a spin-off than a simple continuation, but ABC was the one who wanted to go in that direction. I really opened my mind and my heart to it, and Scrubs: Med School ended up being truly, truly good. I had even planned a whole big Scrubs-centric status report for this lovely Med School season. I was going to call it "A Check-Up with Scrubs: Med School." It was going to be glorious and clever and praise the show for successfully phasing out veteran characters and giving the show a subtle, yet needed makeover. But I just never got around to it. And now, I never will.

I can't say I'm shocked because the ratings and even critical reception for the revamped ninth season have been entiretly lackluster. ABC has a handful of strong half-hour comedies and they are already looking to position some of their Scrubs talent elsewhere. I'm just sad there wasn't an official announcement first. It's like hearing it from the boyfriend's rommate when you call to ask if you're still on for dinner tonight. Harsh.

So, now we have a choice, Scrubs fans, we can either buck up and be mature, recognize that it is over and move on. Or we can turn into the clingy, clueless girl who continues to plan a life together while she ignores all of ABC's hints that they are through.

I'll keep my ear to the ground for an official announcement, but I'm 99% sure this is the real deal. Goodbye, Med School! It was nice knowing you. I will forever call peanut butter and jelly sandwiches "peeberz and jamz" in your honor.
