Because 7 Films Just Aren't Enough
According to the Los Angeles Times (
via Coming Soon), Universal Pictures is "looking to reboot" the American Pie movie franchise. Excuse my caps lock for a moment, but IS THIS REALLY NECESSARY, PEOPLE?! There are already seven films in this ridiculous franchise (three went to theaters, the other four have been straight-to-DVD releases...and for good reason). And the last film came out less than two months ago! And why are we "rebooting" franchises that are only a decade old? Timing issues and the sickening overabundance of franchise reboots aside, what evidence does Universal Pictures have that the public needs new American Pie movies? What evidence would cause them to consider sinking millions of dollars into a project like this? I'd really like to know. Like for real.

UPDATE 7:34pm:
I just read
this amazing, amazing, wonderful, hilarious article from Latino Review in which they publish a letter from a
fervent Twilight fan who accuses Universal Pictures of ripping off Stephanie Meyer's
invention of
werewolves for their movie Wolfman, which stars Academy Award winners Sir Anthony Hopkins and Benicio del Toro. Funniest WTF item in years.
