Long-Awaited Sarah Michelle Gellar Movies Coming to DVD

Over the last two to three years, I have been talking about two movies starring Sarah Michelle Gellar: Veronika Decides to Die and Possession. Between delayed theatrical releases and the flip-flopping between theatrical and straight-to-DVD, the studios have finally come to their senses and are releasing these films in the US.

Both movies will be released on DVD in the coming months. Possession will be released on March 9 and Veronika Decides to Die on April 27. Both are currently available for pre-order purchase at various movie retailers.

Veronika Decides to Die, which is based on the Paulo Coelho novel of the same name (that I highly, highly recommend), follows a young woman who has decided to end her life and how she finds the will to live. Jonathan Tucker and Erika Christensen also star. The film switches New York City for the book's original location of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and hopefully that is the only big change they made because the book was chillingly beautiful on its own.

Possession sees Sarah Michelle Gellar playing a married woman whose black sheep brother-in-law (Lee Pace) comes to stay in her house. Her husband and brother-in-law are in an accident and her husband’s memories are transferred to his brother’s brain. Essentially, SMG, "allows herself to believe that black sheep brother is now her husband and then crazy psychological thriller stuff ensues," to quote my original See, Rent, No post from January 2009 (over a YEAR ago, people!). Yes, this is another South Korean horror remake (based on the 2002 film Addicted) for SMG, but who's counting? Anyway, it looks creepy awesome and I can't wait to see it. Only people in Israel have been able to see it so far. It is time, America.

Hooray for DVD releases! It only took three years.
