Apparently, MTV/Paramount are hard at work on making this release. The current plan is to release Daria as a "reasonably priced" complete series set, which will include all five seasons of the show and both television movies (Is It Fall Yet? and Is It College Yet?). The studio also seems committed to including as many worthwhile extras as possible, such as Daria talk show appearances, Sarcastathons, informative specials and *fingers crossed!* perhaps the unaired pilot!
Unfortunately, the price we will have to pay to finally see this wonderful series on DVD is some song change-ups. According to TSOD's source, the money "wasn't there" for the studio to retain the rights to all of the original music used on show. But sources say that painstaking attention to detail is being paid to replacement song choices, which will either be covers or "music that is substantially similar" to the original song. Since Daria ended in 2002 and I haven't seen it since, I feel confident in my inability to recognize any change-ups thus preserving my viewing experience (read: I don't give a shit! I just want the DVD and I won't remember what song was supposed to be used where anyway!).
Currently, the studio is aiming for a spring 2010 release. However, because there is still much work to be done to finalize the DVD, TSOD suggests not holding our breath and perhaps just being glad that Daria will be out on DVD in 2010, period.
SWTS will continue to report on any and all updates related to the release of Daria on DVD. For now, I shall run around the house in jammie pants singing, "LA LA LA LALA!"
