Happy Thanksgiving from SWTS!

And to those of you non-US readers, Happy Thursday!!!

Most Americans celebrate Thanksgiving by gathering together with family and friends, mulling over what they are thankful for in their lives and eating a slew of traditional foods (turkey, pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, etc.). That's all fine and good, but the other half of that is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a dog show or football. And some people don't like parades, dog shows or football! So, what else can you watch on Thanksgiving? The SWTS recommendation: all of the Thanksgiving episodes from Friends!

Season 1: "The One Where Underdog Gets Away" (1x09)

Monica's Thanksgiving feast doesn't go as planned when Chandler, who doesn't "do" Thanksgiving, riles the group up over a mishap with one of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloons.

Season 2: "The One with the List" (2x08)

Ross takes advice from Chandler and Joey while trying to decide whether he should pick Julie or Rachel. Meanwhile, Monica bakes with Mockolate!

Season 3: "The One with the Football" (3x09)

Monica and Ross bring back the Gellar Cup when the friends decide to play some touch football after their meal. (This episode is actually playing today on TBS at 5:30pm EST! Just a little FYI.)

Season 4: "The One with Chandler in a Box" (4x08)

Joey punishes Chandler for kissing his girlfriend, Kathy, by making Chandler spend the day in a shipping crate while the rest of the friends enjoy a nice turkey dinner.

Season 5: "The One with All the Thanksgivings" (5x08)

After enjoying their traditional Thanksgiving feast prepared by Monica (of course), the gang sits around sharing memories of their worst Thanksgivings. Flashbacks ensue.

Season 6: "The One Where Ross Got High" (6x09)

When the Gellar parents join the friends for Thanksgiving dinner, Ross is forced to reveal why his parents hate Chandler. (This episode is actually playing today on TBS at 5:00pm EST! Just a little FYI.)

Season 7: "The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs" (7x08)

Phoebe brings a furry friend to Thanksgiving dinner and we find out that Chandler hates dogs. Meanwhile, Ross must name all 50 US states before eating.

Season 8: "The One with the Rumor" (8x09)

This one is a little awkward in real life because Brad Pitt is a guest star. Monica invites a high school friend (Pitt) to Thanksgiving dinner and Rachel finds out about the "I Hate Rachel Greene Club." Phoebe and Chandler pretend to watch football.

Season 9: "The One with Rachel's Other Sister" (9x08)

Rachel's other, more irresponsible sister (duh) shows up for Thanksgiving! Christina Applegate guest stars as Amy Greene, and, fun fact, she won an Emmy for it.

Season 10: "The One with the Late Thanksgiving" (10x08)

Monica and Chandler are disappointed when everyone shows up to Thanksgiving late until they get good news from their adoption agency.

So, there you have it. The perfect Thanksgiving day non-parade/non-dog show/non-football marathon! I hope you enjoy.

And for those of you who partake in my Thanksgiving tradition of blasting "Basted in Blood" by Sarah McLachlan and Cinder Calhoun*, please click here for complete lyrics and an MP3 download!

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

*Note: Played by Ana Gasteyer.

  1. Dude those Friends recaps brought back so many awesome memories. The flashback episode where Ross and Chandler have Flock of Seagulls hair and blazers with the sleeves pushed up is emblazoned on my memory for all of time.
